Reaching Out to Schools

The association Augenhöhe e.V. was dissolved on March 31, 2021. This website is for historical reference only.

In German, ‚Augenhöhe‘ refers to meeting others on an equal footing. Through our volunteer programme we aim to support such encounters between individuals. In addition, we are working with schools throughout Germany in this spirit of respect and mutual exchange.

Since the academic year of 2013/14, Augenhöhe cooperates with five schools across the country to offer educational workshops. Students and our volunteers meet up to three times for dialogue and mutual learning. We adapt our presentations, workshops, dialogues or film screenings to our participants’ interests and according to students’ age and the subject by working closely with partnering schools.

Currently, we work on three issues:

  • Window into Politics/Perspectives on Politics: The Israeli Palestinian Conflict.
  • Language Lab: Arabic.
  • Looking Ahead: Volunteering Abroad – Meaningful? Problematic?! (from grade/form 10)

What motivates us to work with schools on this broad range of issues, is to start a dialogue with young people, broaden horizons and give students access to alternative perspectives. Above all, we aim to promote values of mutual tolerance and appreciation (better: respect?) through such dialogues.

Augenhöhe depends on financial contributions from supporters and friends. Therefore, we encourage the classes we work with to support our work by raising money/collecting donations to support our work at Augenhöhe.
